Accountant Level 1
Accountant Level 1 will be responsible for general accounting functions including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and reconciliations. The Accountant Level 1 will assist with monthly closings and account analysis and support the Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the accounting department. This position will be responsible for managing bill payment, setting up foreign and domestic wire transfers, overseeing online bank activity and reviewing the work of the accounting clerk to insure accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
Responsibilities and duties include the following:
Prepare journal entries
Prepare monthly closings; assist with year end closings
Compile monthly closing documentation in binder, organize and label
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare analysis of other accounts as requested
Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable; including accuracy of GL posting, adherence to company policy and approval guidelines
Prepare annual personal property rendition and Freeport exemption
Assist with tax computations, returns and regulatory filings; issue 1099’s and 1098’s
Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts
Prepare employee commission calculations for review and approval by VP of Operations
Review and insure timely payment of affiliate commissions
Monitor and resolve bank issues including fee anomalies and check differences; issue stop pays and follow-up on stale checks
Review and process expense reports; insure accuracy and compliance to company expense guidelines
Assist with preparation of work papers as required by external auditor
Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
Manage on-line banking activity including download of daily bank activity, set up of wire transfers for approval, etc
Oversee customer refund processing
Prepare weekly disbursement report for review by Controller
Prepare annual 1099 and 1098’s
prepare special reports as required; prepare training guides and document SOP’s
Maintain departmental intranet resource
Respond to customer service accounting inquiries
Complete credit applications and W9 requests
Oversee mail order form processing; replenish business reply mail account
Act as subject matter expert for credit card processing (interface with merchant services and gateway vendors)
Required Skills Education and Skills Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four year college or university or equivalent
1 to 2 plus years related experience
Language/Math/Reasoning Ability
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information in form of business documents (invoice, PO, etc), written technical procedures, web based research
Ability to write short reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Understands double entry accounting and can apply its principles
Understands accounting concepts of amortization, depreciation, and accrual
Understands organization of GL accounts as well as balance sheet and P&L presentations
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, co-workers and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Computer Skills
Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Experienced with QuickBooks
Compensation and Benefits
Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; salaried/exempt position; some overtime may be required
